BREAK DOWN
THE STIGMA!

We regard it as important that everyone is offered an HIV test as part of routine care when an HIV indicator conditions is present. Regardless of gender, age, sexual preference or origin. The stigma that still exists among doctors providing an HIV test or patients asking for an HIV test must be broken. We would like a future where testing for HIV is seen as being equal to checking blood sugar levels when we think someone has diabetes or taking a chest x-ray when someone has pneumonia.

Our mission

#aware.hiv stands for 0 new HIV-infections and eradicating AIDS in the Netherlands. Of course, our aim reaches further. We hope to contribute to the WHO’s goals of eradicating HIV worldwide by 2030.

Our vision

#aware.hiv innovates stigma-free tracing of HIV by implementing a proactive HIV-testing policy and education.

Dare to be Aware

‘Dare to be aware’ is the slogan for #aware.hiv. This slogan challenges people to think about HIV and HIV indicator conditions. We want to challenge medical professionals to think about the HIV indicator conditions that present within his or her specialty. We challenge them to join us in breaking the stigma surrounding HIV. This means an HIV test for every patient with an HIV indicator condition, regardless of background, age, sexual preference or gender.

Did you know that testing for HIV in HIV indicator conditions is recommended in the National Guidelines and by the World Health Organisation?

Dare to Ask

This slogan, 'Dare to ask' is aimed at the general public. We need your help if we want to achieve zero new HIV infections per year in the Netherlands. This slogan encourages the general public to request an HIV test from their general practitioner (doctor) more often if, for example, they have an HIV indicator condition.

Do you dare to ask your doctor for an HIV test if this is necessary? Or do you prefer to use our conversation card?

Dare to Know

The slogan 'Dare to know' is used to share more knowledge about HIV indicator disorders, HIV and AIDS with the general public and the medical professional. We like to challenge them to learn more about HIV indicator conditions.

Do you know which disorders actually fall under the HIV indicator disorders? And do you know how to recognize them?

Dare to get Tested

The slogan 'Dare to get tested' is used during public promotions organized from #aware.hiv. During these campaigns, we provide passers-by with information about HIV indicator conditions and offer interested parties a free rapid HIV test that they can have performed on site.

When was the last time you were tested for HIV?
